High Rate of Unemployment

Employment generation was one of BJP's major poll planks in 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Narendra Modi had promised to create 2 crore jobs annually if BJP was elected to power. But, the this poll promise has also remained, more or less, on paper. As on Feb. 2018, more than 30 million people were unemployed and looking for jobs while the job creation was limited to 6,00,000. much far less than required.

1.3 million employment seeking youth are adding every month, thereby meaning that India requires monthly job creation of 1.3 million failing which unemployment backlog will keep on swelling.

Surprisingly, higher the degree. more high is the level of unemployment. A report says, more than 60% of the eight lakh engineers graduating from technical institutions across the country every year remain unemployed, according to the All India Council for Technical Education.Unemployment among below primary and pre-primary literates in the age group of 18-29 years is just 4%. Those with degrees it is 28%. It is 4%. Among graduates but 14% among postgraduates. For illiterates it is 2%.

The situation is so grave that over a million job-seekers have applied for 700 jobs in Telangana. Among them hundreds are Ph.D and M.Phil degrees and lakhs are either postgraduates or graduate engineers. The qualification for the posts is just Class 12 pass.

Last year (2017), graduates, postgraduates and even PhD holders were among the 23 lakh job-seekers for 368 posts of peons in the Uttar Pradesh government secretariat.More than 250 held doctorates and 24,969 were postgraduates. The minimum qualifications for this peon post was school education and bicycle-riding skills with a monthly salary of about Rs 16,000.

In Himachal, more than 7000 dental doctors appeared for Public Service Commission test four years ago for just 30 posts.

Engineers, law graduates and MBAs were among 2.81 lakh applicants queuing up for tests and interviews in Madhya Pradesh for 738 peon posts earlier this year.

High rate of unemployment among youths drive them to unwanted areas, injurious for nation's integrity. Our political leaders are smart enough to get themselves as many monetary benefits including pension but care little for job creation. Where is country heading for?
