Medical Negligence In India

How would you react if someone nearer to us is taken to hospital but doctors there instead of giving him best treatment, declare him dead. Not only this when another hospital did its best to revive the terminally ill patient, the previous hospital authorities reach the spot (hospital) with the “intention to see the patient should not revive”. Its not only against the ethics of the noble medical profession but also grossly inhuman and barbaric. Alas! the commercialization of the medical profession has sunk it to the level of evil doer.

This most inhuman case is now being heard in the Punjab's Bathinda court. The Court has issued summons to three persons, including two doctors and a manager, for “declaring” a living person dead and advising his kin to “cremate the body”.

According to the case history, on February 10, 2017, the son of ailing man took his father to local Jindal Heart Hospital, from where he was referred to the Delhi Heart Hospital. But at Delhi Heart Hospital a doctor on duty declared him dead.

However, the "dead' man was taken to another hospital, where a compounder found him alive. After this he was then taken to another heart caring Global hospital. Here after three days of treatment, he was discharged and now he is hale and hearty

The most shocking was the efforts of Delhi Heart Hospital officials. When they came to know about this, they reached Global Hospital with the “intention that the patient should not revive” as it would damage the image of their hospital.

Nearly 5,000,000 Indians dying due to medical negligence in India every year. There is no permanent solution to this and government of the day as well medical ethic bodies have done little to stem the rot. A study by the Harvard University last year has shown that nearly 5,000,000 deaths occur in India annually due to medical errors triggered by lack of practical knowledge among the doctors and nurses to handle patients when brought to the hospital.

In Europe, The Acute Critical Care Course (ACCC), has been in place since eighties. It has helped in reducing the death rate of patients by nearly 10 per cent, even in serious health complications. India also needs an comprehensive course to equip the doctors of a hospital how to receive critical care patients and treat them accordingly.

Fascist Mindset Harming Economy

Its clearly fascist mindset when ruling class in a democratic set-up expects you to dance to its tunes. When exercising dictatorial power, forcibly suppress dissenting voices and regimenting society and economy to the subservience is the order of the day. This is what is happening in India right now.

The fascist people want you to speak what suits them. Practice and preach what they tell you to do. Eat and wear what they like and breath the air filled with saffron rustic rhymes filtered by divisive overtones.

Otherwise, in a democratic country, why so much of fuss is being made over Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone over her visit to JNU. She is a free citizen and has every right to visit anyone of her liking. And by the same logic, why should people object to Navjot Singh Sidhu's visit to Pakistan and his friendly relations with Prime Minister, Imran Khan. In a democratic country every citizen has the right to live and act the way he likes. Its for the people of Punjab to give their verdict on Sidhu's Pakistan visit. Similarly, its for audience to pass verdict on Deepika's JNU move.

Lately, India has witness some tense moments which have only escalated the slowdown of the economy. The growth rate for the current financial year has been pegged at 5 percent- the slowest in 11 years. This much below the targeted level of 9 percent if India is to become $5 trillion economy in next 5 years. A climate of violence, hatred and regimentation can't help Indian economy to accomplish the target.

A latest report says that after article 370 was scrapped in August, Kashmir's economy has suffered more than Rs. 18,000 crore and 4,96 lakh jobs were lost in 120 days. Its multiplier effect will be colossal. And as the nation see more and more violence and protests over Amended Citizenship Law, the loss to economy is going to be very heavy.

Sadly, fascist mindset is not ready to accommodate any shade of opinion and is out to implement its agenda at any cost. The amended Citizenship Law is seen as dividing the nation on religious lines. And it meets saffron party BJP political ends. It seeks to divide people and polarize its vote. It succeeded by raking up Ayodhya issue and may succeed by implementing amended Citizenship Law. But it is almost certain that economy is growing to suffer immensely and India may not become $ 5 trillion economy by 2025.

Our Heads Hang In Shame

Ours head, except 'men with convenient consciousness ' hang in shame on Sunday's violence at Indian Capital Delhi's premier Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). The obnoxious and most unsavory incident has received so much widespread condemnation that Delhi police's lawyer, Rahul Mehra has strongly condemned the attack.

Masked goons armed with iron rods, bottles and sledgehammers went on a brutal rampage in the university campus. The details that have emerged clearly point out the police and authorities' connivance. The streetlights went off during the murderous attack and attackers in masks, carrying weapons had a free run for three hours. There werr not stopped by either the police or the administration. More than 34 people, including students and faculty, were injured. The victims have alleged the role of the ABVP, the RSS affiliated student body. The ABVP has accused left-backed student groups for the attack. But, it is apparent that the attacks were not engineered by left-wing students. Otherwise, police and authorities would have swung into action and situation would have been different.

Usually, multiple security guards are posted at each gate of the university and they record the movement of students and vehicles entering and exiting the campus. It is still a mystery how the attackers armed with weapons were allowed entry into the JNU campus and why weren't they stopped? The attackers went from hostel to hostel unstopped beating students and teachers. The attackers even didn't spare the politician-activist Yogendra Yadav. In a Facebook post Mr Yadav said he was attacked thrice and "the police (just) watched". Obviously , the attacks were planned with official support.

The role of the Delhi police, controlled by Home Ministry looks too dubious. The cops did not intervene and allowed attackers free run for over three overs. The attack is linked to the left wing students' country-wide mass protest against mended Citizenship Law.

However,it is to be remembered that popular uprising can't be stopped by tyrannical tactics. Hours after the rampage at the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus, thousands of students across the country went in spontaneous protest against the "brutal crackdown" on dissenting voices. Hundreds of students across Mumbai started gathering at the Gateway of India from Sunday midnight, demanding action against Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the RSS-linked student union alleged to be behind the attack.

Aligarh Muslim University Students took out a candlelight march in solidarity with the students and faculty members of JNU. Students in Hyderabad held an impromptu demonstration. Students of the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune and Jadavpur University in Kolkata also took out late night demonstration. More protests are expected.

The ruling BJP should remember that students' movements were the force to overthrow tyrannical Indira regime in 1977. History repeats itself.

Tyranny Can't Last Long

"I don't really want to shake your hand."

"You won't be getting any votes down here buddy... you're out."

"What about the people who are dead now, Mr Prime Minister? What about the people who have nowhere to live?"

These were the salvos angry people fired at Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison as he toured a bushfire-ravaged town on Thursday. He was loudly heckled by locals. Local People were angry with Prime Minister for not caring to visit them earlier when they needed his help most.
Now imagine, can there be such a scenario in World's largest democracy- India? First, SPG guards will never allow people near our dear Prime Minister as he is highest protected dignitary. And if somehow the other, someone gets close to PM, he will be whisked away, dubbed as Pakistani and put behind the bars. And what about faceless chief minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gahlot who takes refuse under misdoings of others over Kota infant deaths. And what about Congress leader Priyanka Gadh Vadra? She loses no time to visit the victims when something happens in BJP-ruled states but keeps away from Congress ruled states when tragic accidents like Kota infant deaths occur. Our leaders are so shameless that instead of mourning the death of infants, Health Minister willingly and happily accepted the red carpet welcome when he visited the hospital where more than one hundred infants have died. Shame on them. Don't u think they deserve a lesson ?

India has yet to see the luminous of real democracy. See what's happening in country's largest state Uttar Pradesh. The other day news channel, Aajtak relayed a live report on those who were held responsible for spreading violence during protests against Citizenship Amended Act and were issued notices for damage claim. And among them were many nonagenarians either bed-ridden or unable even to stand straight. Yet they were booked for damaging public properties, simply they happened to be Muslims. Its no democracy Mr. Yogi. There is no rule of law. On the contrary, demagogues rule the roost and hatred and prejudices overpower the law of the land.

And sadly most of our enlightened people, budhijivis (intellectuals) and social activists are not moved for fear of backlash from ruling "mafia". Those, including present rulers, who have seen the dark days of emergency can recollect how the atmosphere of fear had engulfed the nation. There were "arbitrary arrests and detentions", same as what is happening in UP and elsewhere on protests against CAA and what happened in Kashmir earlier. All these developments just damage our economy and put brakes on fast growth. It happened during emergency and is slowing down the growth as of now.

But history reminds us the uprising against tyranny and authoritarian rule can't last for long. Sooner than later, the uprising manifests in people's anger as we have seen post emergency. BJP leaders (then Jansangh) were witness to this universal phenomenon. How sad, they haven't learnt a lesson.

Communalizing Faiz Ahmed Faiz

'निसार मैं तेरी गलियों के ऐ वतन, कि जहां
चली है रस्म कि कोई न सर उठा के चले'

'Iconic poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz had realized in his life time how dangerous it was for a revolutionary to raise his voices. Now almost more than three decades after his death (Nov 20,1984), the writings of this great poet are being seen through communal spects by saffron people. Faculty members and some students of IIT-Kanpur have filed a complaint against a student for reciting Faiz poem, claiming it provoked "anti-Hindu" sentiments. Faiz's poem "Hum Dekhenge" was recited by the institute's students on December 17 as part of a solidarity march with Jamia students.

And that was the catch. The protest was in solidarity with Jamia students for protesting against Citizenship Act. So it became eye sore for the saffronists. They found an excuse in IIT-Kanpur students' Dec 17 protest.

Faiz's poem "Hum Dekhenge" wuas recited by the institute's students on December 17 as part of a solidarity march with Jamia students. Pak dictator dreaded the poem and now Indian fundamentalists appear so.

It is interesting that fundamentalists, all kinds of, don't like this poem," says Javed Akhtar, the noted writer, lyricist. Only very brazen, would accuse Faiz's writings of being even distantly communal. But for saffron colored anything associated with revolution is anathema, anti Hindu and as such anti-national.

Faiz, is recognized the world over as one of the most brilliant revolutionary poets of the sub-continent with a following cutting across communities and countries. His writings have been translated into several languages. He was a nominee for the Literature's Nobel Prize. He was imprisoned by Pak govt in 1951 on charges of sedition and jailed for four years. After Communist Party was banned in Pakistan, Faiz was again arrested in 1958 for "spreading communist ideas." Subsequently he was forced to leave Pakistan for several years. After he returned to Pakistan, he was constantly harassed. But Faiz never gave up his commitment to socialism and this reflected his writings throughout his life.

The slogans of "inquilab zindabad" of "hum dekhenge"chanted decades ago in Lahore found its resonance AT IIT campus in Kanpur. The struggle for justice has many shades and colors. Faiz provided words to retain their relevance and it will be the war cry at the beginning of every protest meeting...'hum dekhenge'. Despite being communist, Faiz was nor a Its never anti-religion.

However the question arises as to why the work of a poet so hated by the Pakistani ll rulers should face an equal hostility in a premier institution like IIT in India. The answer lies in the present situation wherein wide protests against Citizenship Law and and large spontaneous participation by young people have shaken the ruling regime. So saffron people find answer , as is their wont, in communalizing the protests, to make it a Hindu-Muslim issue. In the process even Faiz is not spared.

How To Live Happily 24X7

The first day of Year 2020 was marked by a sunshine with a chilly day in most part of the Northern India. Temperatures have increased by 3°C- 4°C in Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan in the past 24 hours. The day also passed off peacefully though the political slug-fest over "who is more anti-national" continues to dominate media headlines.

But Modi govt has spoiled the New Year by burdening the common men with price hike. The price of non-subsidised LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) or cooking gas prices have been hiked by Rs 19 to Rs 19.5 per cylinder from January 1, 2020. In Delhi and Mumbai, the hike is to the tune of Rs 19 and Rs 19.5 per cylinder respectively. This is a fifth straight monthly hike in the prices. The non-subsidised LPG rates have been revised to Rs 714 per cylinder in Delhi and Rs 684.50 per cylinder in Mumbai.

And from first day of new year, train journey will be costlier by 1 to 4 paise per kilometre in different classes. The Railways has hiked the passenger fares from 1st January, 2020. Air travel has also become costlier with hike in fuel prices.

And by making fast-tag compulsory on toll barriers from Jan. 15,vehicle owners have again be put to test. Earlier, the abnormal hike in fine for violation of traffic rules

The doves will say "its a small hike" but common men always feels the pinch of price hike as even a single rupee increase in prices holes his pocket. Its unfortunate that our leaders care too little for the plight of common men. The sky-rocketing prices of onion and seasonal vegetables are beyond poor's reach. Today, while buying vegetables, I saw a poor lady asking for 100 gm of onion but vendor refusing to sell the meager quantity. Do our leaders sitting in air-conditioned rooms enjoying Z security at public expense realize how the common men who voted lock, stock and barrel for PM Modi is struggling to survive in biting cold.

Why should the hapless common men pay for the misdeeds of our political leaders. And why not tax our lawmakers enjoying fat salary and perks? Is there any drastic difference between the governance of previous and present govts? I don't see any perceptible change.

We, the people of this country owe to our mother India to make it a "Ram Rajya", It can be done not by constructing Ram temple in Ayodhya but by ensuring a common men friendly governance where our leaders live and work like common men and wipe his tears. Its only then, we will live happily all through 365 days.
