India Not Shining Even after Seven Decades of Independence

The maid servant working at our house is a mother of three at the age of 21. She is living in our colony in a temporary small structure built by her with her three daughters and husband without basic amenities. There is no electricity, no water and not even toilet , not to think of education and health facilities. There are many other such families. Their half or shabbily  dresses children don't go to schools and keep on playing in streets throughout the day. They can't afford.     Occasionally, officials of local body administrating the colony dismantle their structure. The moment officials leave, the Jhopad-patti (dwelling) is re-built. Life for  these families is as harsh and  struggleful as were of their forefathers.  All these families come from eastern UP and Bihar. Independence has no meaning for them. Life is as tough for these families as were during British Raj. " My grand father used to work as daily wager, my father was also a construction worker ad I am following them", said the husband of my maid , who works as a painter with a contractor".   As there are very little or no job opportunities in home states, thousands of  families come in search of jobs in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal, mostly in cities. The influx of the migration from UP and Bihar to North of Delhi is so vast that in some cities, the locals are resisting. The colony where I am living is the case in point. The residents resist the presence of migrants as it is putting pressure on their life. The migrants  have occupied  all open areas and their rustic life style disturb the residents. However,  this going on for years. How sad it is that even after seven decades of independence, a vast numbers of families live a miserable life and their children remain without schooling? Both BJP and ruling Nitish Kumar led grand alliance  claim a lot of progress in Bihar but if you look at these families, the development means nothing.  Of late, Himachal Pradesh has become the biggest attraction for migrants. The peaceful environment  with relatively easy accessibility have made the state popular destination for migrants. Earlier, Himachal, particularly the apple belt was the favorite destination for Nepalese workers. With the opening up of Nepal's economy, the influx of Nepalese is gradually coming down, However, the migrants from UP And Bhiar have gone up. In fact, the construction works are now the exclusive expertise of Bihari workers even in remote areas. Locals are, nowhere, to be seen.  Bihari  workers are, relatively cheaper and much more fast than the local ones. I wonder, if Bihari workers can change the construction industry scenario outside the state, why can't they do it in their home  state. It speaks for the hoax claim of local leaders on development. The economic development  has no meaning if it can't ameliorate the life of lower strata. All we can say is India is not shining even after seven decades of  Independence.
