Relatives. friends and well-wishers: A ton of thanks for attending the auspicious wedding ceremony of my son. Sadly, we have missed some of you. Its really painful to find that some were out to settle old scores. Never mind, its a part of life. We are god-fearing people. At the slightest ignominious happenings, we get tense and fearful . I ran into some bad period prior to my son's marriage. My wife fractured her left angle and remained immobile during the ceremony. It was interpreted as a bad omen. There were some happenings on the bride side too. All these made us fearful. Nothing bad happened. All went as per our wishes. The wedding ceremony is most important social dispensation in our diverse society. Indian society offers astounding variety in virtually every aspect of social life. Diversities of ethnic, linguistic, regional, economic, religious, class, and caste groups crosscut. Differences between north India and south India are particularly significant, especially in systems of marriage. The rapidly occurring changes affecting various regions and socioeconomic groups in disparate ways. Yet, amid the complexities of Indian life, widely accepted social rituals enhance social harmony and order.Willingly or unwillingly, Hindus have to follow, rituals, customs and traditions still religiously practised by us notwithstanding that they eat up your money, time and energy. Nevertheless, Hindu is a way of disciplined social life not a stereo type as used by saffron elements. Hinduism is both a civilization and a conglomerate of religions, with neither a beginning, a founder, nor a central authority, hierarchy, nor organization. India has one of the strongest institution of marriage, not found elsewhere. The ceremonial rituals strengthen the institution of marriage. And these rituals are followed to lay a strong foundation of nuptial knot. Hindus have sought to idealize and sanctify the institution of marriage as no other civil society has done. Conjugal fidelity is regarded as the supreme virtue of a woman and it is this character that has protected the Hindu race and Hindu religion down the ages. It is with this end in view that so much stress has been laid to practize strictest rituals.Marriage is one of the most important institutions of human society. It has been variously defined by sociologists as well as by legal luminaries. Marriage signifies the ceremony or event by means of which the common intention of a man and a woman to marry is publicly contracted that is to say, acknowledged and announced as is the case in India. We may like or not but, marriage But having regard to contemporary busy life, we need to cut short these rituals to save time and money. These rituals and customs were cast to fit ancient nomadic and subsequent agricultural society. Modern society is running fast and social mooring is the biggest causality. Let us recast the rituals that suit our time.
