Golden Days of J&K in Himachal Pradesh

How do the people of chief minister's constituency feel in Himachal? Normally, they are considered to be a privileged one. They get better treatment than others. In seventies there used to be a 'J&K' in Himachal Pradesh. This nomenclature of the neighboring's state was used for Jubbal & Kotkhai, the constituency of Ram Lall Thakur, the then chief minister and later Governor of Andhra Pradesh. The state of Jammu & Kashmir enjoys special status under article 370 and gets liberal central grant. The Jubbal & Kotkhai  had enjoyed the special status as long as Ram Lall Thakur represented it. Presently, the constituency is being represented by his grandson, Rohit Thakur. But he is no match to the  his grandpa.  People of J&K were then the  most Favoured People (MFP) when Ram Lall was the chief minister. They were given VIP treatment and were preferred in govt jobs over others. If recruitment statistics of the period Thakur Ram Lall  was the chief minister are seen, it would be obvious how well he had nursed his constituency.  I was myself a witness to it. I was to appear for an interview in a  state govt undertaking . As the interview was going on, a gentleman came and walked straight into interview room. Later, it turned out to be that he was from J &K and a man of Ram Lall, the nomenclature, people of constituency used to be called. He was selected. His direct assess to his constituency people made him    He was a die hard Indira Gandhi loyalist and the same way, people of J&K were his supporters. He was so popular in his constituency that he  had even defeated, Virbhadra Singh, the incumbent chief minister in eighties. People of other constituency used to be envied J&K.  Having seen this, people of Bhajji-Dhami areas including me and my family were elated as and when Virbhadra Singh, decided to contest from Shimla (Rural). The area had remained neglected. We saw an grand opportunity and people voted overwhelmed for Virbhadra Singh. He did some good works before parliament elections but now looks indifferent.  Modi wave had struck the constituency and BJP got lead in this constituency as well. I rue the people's decision. Leaders should be rewarded or for that matter punished, for the good and bad performance.  BJP hasn't done anything worthwhile to our area. Prem Kumar Dhumal, rarely visited the constituency though it is very close to capital Shimla. The only minister from Shimla, Naredra Bragta was just confined to his constituency and never bothered to nurse other than his constituency. Bragta is a Dhumal's 'poster boy' and was so even during his college days. He was with me in HP university. I was studying economics and he was in political science.  Many of my HP university batch mate   have done well in politics. Anand Sharma is tallest among them. He is the only man from state to be NSUI  president, Youth Congress president and party spokesman. Our constituency is yet to see the golden days of J&K.  Alas! the golden days of J&K has never visited other constituencies, represented by other chief minister. Let the people judge for themselves.
