The claim of Pakistan ex-diplomat to India, Adul Basit on influencing courageous eminent writer Shobhaa De is just not amusing but outrageous as well . I say "amusing" because nobody not even her husband could ever influence the courageous "outside the box thinking' writer. Even a novice reader won't accept such an absurd utterance just to made discredit India and madame Shobhaa. Even at 70, she is as indomitable as she was 50 year ago. Best known for her depiction of socialites and sex in her works of fiction, she has come to be known as the "Jackie Collins of India".She is among the distinguished literary writers of South Asia.
Basit, who was Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India from 2014 to 2017 m has claimed in a video interview that after the July 2016 killing of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani in July 2016, none of the mainstream journalists was writing about the use of pellet guns and atrocities on protesters. Only De “agreed” to write an article on Kashmir’s “self-determination” and in one of her columns wrote, “Now the time has come to resolve this issue once and for all through a plebiscite”,
A Writer believes in truth and works for it. He is never blind to ground reality. Its hard to believe that Shobbaa De would indulge in "suggested writings". If there can be no other Kushwant Singh, there can be no other Shobhaa De.
