A 33-year-old Indian Administrative Service officer admitted in his resignation letter "...Not that my resignation will cause anything even worth a flutter. But one has one's own conscience to answer to, I guess". Brave man, indeed. It takes a lot of courage to swim against the mainstream.
The young Kannan Gopinath is not a Kashmiri and he never worked in the state but he is an Indian and like other enlightened citizens shares his concern for fellow citizens. To him. Kashmiris are as Indians as those living in other parts of the country and they deserve the same treatment as others. Suspending fundamental rights is the worst thing citizens can expect from a responsible govt.
The officer sain "In (Jammu and) Kashmir, fundamental rights of lakhs of people have been suspended for 20 days. And many in India seem to be okay with it. This is happening in India in 2019' and it "disturbed" him so much that he decided to quit.
It is said history doesn’t repeat itself by recreating each moment from the past but It takes newer forms. As was in 1975, the turbulence this time also didn't come come from foreign invasion or conquest. It has been generated from within. The wound was self-inflicted.
