Its almost seven decades that India has been free from the colonial rule, yet we are still inwardly 'gulam' (subservient) if not outwardly. We still feel 'Gora' or fair-complexioned race is smarter and more intelligent than us. We pride ourselves in working abroad even if the job is menial. The 'foreign return' stamp makes one superior even than domestic high-raking employment. Despite living in internet age, the erstwhile princely rulers are ordained, revered and people stand in long queues to have a glimpse of them. In some ares, Raja, Maharajas are even worshiped. Ministers and babus (public servants) are called "saheb" and can't be easily accessed to. The criminals, law-breakers and ruffians become law-makers. Women, girls are raped and killed for dowry. Daughters are killed for honour. Urinating in public, spiting on public places and street littering go on unabated. We take pride in damaging public property and stealing it for our personal use. Honestly speaking, we are not a civilized people and lacks courage to resist. And as Rohinton Mistry quote "Money can buy the necessary police order . Justice is sold to the highest bidder”, aptly practiced in India. Given this state of affairs, it is not amusing to read that union govt run Air India offloaded three passengers including a child to accommodate one union minister and another state deputy chief minister. It is also not shocking to find that US bound AIR India flight from Mumbai was delayed for over two hours as a VIP (IAS officer) passenger attached to Maharashtra chief minister forget to carry his visa. It is also not surprising that DMK leader MK Stalin slapped a man in Chennai metro and there was hardly any resistance from fellow passengers. We deserve all this because we are coward. Tolerating an injustice even passively is as serious a crime as committing it. The act of cowardice kills man's self-confidence. And remember "those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.” There is no greater tyranny than that which is perpetrated under the shield of the law. We need to rise .
