No Law For VVIPS in India, They Are Sacrosanct

There are two set of law in India. Harsh laws for Common Man and no law for VVIPs and political leaders. Honestly speaking. Indian VVIPs are above law and in fact. sacrosanct. Take the case of Congress President Sonia Gandhi's daughter Priyanka Vadra Gandhi land deal in Himachal. She was given permission to buy land twice- in 2007 by Congress govt and in 2011 by BJP govt headed by Prem Kumar Dhumal - despite state revenue law prohibiting any land purchase by an outsider. Long ago, an amendment called 118 was inserted in state land and tenancy law , ostensibly, to prevent  large-scale land deals by outsider making local landless. The low farm output in Himachal  makes land less attractive for farming. though  some high altitude areas are remunerative  for apple cultivation. The land in low areas is found  more suitable either to cultivate forest farming or develop tourist spots. Before the law 118  was enacted , non-state residents were free to buy land in Himachal and inclusive tourism potential districts like Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Kullu-Manali, Chamba and Kangra attracted a heavy rush of  land buyers from outside. The demographic character of Himachal Pradesh is, somewhat, similar to neighbor Jammu & Kashmir and any major change in this could affect the local settlement. Outsiders are not allowed to settle in Jammu & Kashmir for fear of being outnumbering locals. The same situation  was feared developing in Himachal if locals continued to sell their land to outsiders. It was then the incumbent chief minister Virbhadra Singh who piloted the amendment to prevent large-scale shifting of land to outsider. The idea was to protect poor local landholders from land-sharks. Under the law, outsider could buy land in Himachal with the permission of the govt. This provision has made mockery of the law. As is the won't of  ruling class and the "corrupt" babus, those having money and politiucal power were given permission to buy land at will. The very idea has been defeated as the big land deals continued to take place. Having regard to the prime motive behind the law. permission to outsider land purchase should have been totally banned, except for bonafide purposes like setting up industries and educational institutes. Even for this purpose, a land pool could be created as to facilitate the bonafide requirements. But then, how could ruling class oblige VVIPs and those in power for whom no law applies. The Priyanka Vadra land deal case is the one that shows how our politicians are undermining the very edifice they are administered to protect.
